power boost

One of my jobs requires me to be up at six a.m., and if you're like me, the snooze button is your dearest friend.

While it's not easy to climb out from under my cozy sheets, I've found a tasty and healthy treat that makes the rest of the morning much easier. Thank you, Women's Health, for making me more of a morning person.

Ultimate Power Smoothie:
1/2 Tbsp of peanut butter
1 banana
1/2 cup fat free milk
1/4 cup orange juice
1/2 cup Greek-style yogurt
1 tablespoon of vanilla or chocolate-flavored protein powder
1 tablespoon of unflavored fiber powder
1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed
3-4 ice cubes

Blend it all together to power up your early start.

I realize that sometimes you are on the go and you may think you don't have time to blend up breakfast, but beware of smoothies on-the-go. Stopping in at that Jamba Juice and purchasing what may sound like a healthy, power smoothie really isn't good for you at all.

Their 30 fl. oz Jamba Juice Chocolate Moo'd Power Smoothie has 900 calories, which isn't surprising with the two pints of Ben and Jerry's Butter Pecan ice cream. Their 30 fl. oz Power Peanut Butter Moo'd Smoothie is even worse with a whopping 1,170 calories. If you wanted a milk shake for breakfast, why not just go to Johnny Rockets?

You could save some money, and some pounds, by just making a smoothie at home. However, if you must indulge in some Jamba, then opt for their healthier choices in their "All Fruit" section of the menu. Make sure to order a Whey Super Protein Boost.
