My 23rd birthday came and went quickly. I must admit, it didn't feel much like my birthday. Perhaps it was due to my desire to putting a halt on growing any older, but I can't stop time. Despite my attempts to follow in the footsteps of Peter Pan, my friends planned wonderful celebratory events that made tacking on another year not so bad.
We had dinner at House of Tricks, where the ten of us ate delicious food, drank wine, and sat underneath a candle lit canopy. The rain tried to put a damper on our plans, but we pushed on through with high spirits. From the cozy restaurant, we braved the wind in our highest heels and colorful dresses, to our favorite spot to enjoy drinks and good company. What better to accompany some drinks than a box of Sprinkles cupcakes? After lighting a little blue candle, making a hopeful birthday wish, and blowing the flame out, we all chowed down on Red Velvets, coconut covered frosting, and chocolate sprinkles.
Of course, there were some birthday mishaps. When aren't there? Lesley Gore didn't write, "It's My Party" for nothing. Despite the bad, the night was wonderful and it made me realize just how lucky I am to have the friends that I do. It just goes to say that the age old saying is true, "It's not the quantity, it's the quality," and I sure had quality at my party.
Birthday loot included: heartfelt birthday cards, champagne, cupcakes, a classic book, nail polish, and a birthday cup, but the best things I came away with were the memories.
