telling amy's story

Over the weekend, I joined my mom for a workshop on domestic violence. She gives her time and heart by volunteering at a women's shelter, which I really commend her on. This shelter put on the workshop where we watched the documentary, Telling Amy's Story. It was a real eye-opener, and inspired me to share it with my readers.

"Telling Amy’s Story is the powerful and heart-wrenching account of a woman who tried to escape an abusive marriage and was ultimately murdered by her husband in 2001 as she was leaving her home, while her parents and young children were waiting in the car outside. The hour-long presentation details Amy’s experiences as she reaches out for assistance within her Pennsylvania community. The intent of sharing Amy’s story is to highlight the need for a coordinated, comprehensive response to victims of abuse as they work to end the cycle of violence in their lives."

Domestic violence is all around us, whether it's blatant or behind closed doors. It's something we need to be aware of. Whether you are in an abusive relationship, or know someone who is, please seek help. It takes a lot of courage, but safety, health, and happiness should come first. Always.
